Ryma was the 17 year old patriarch at the Smithsonian National Zoo. He was from a particular region of Kenya known as the Maasai Mara.

He had one offspring at the zoo as well as a mate.

Ryma supposedly died from some severe gastro-intestinal problems in the winter, or very early spring, of 2002. Although large and powerful, giraffes are also surprisingly fragile and often die suddenly, as was the case with Ryma. But if you ever went to the National Zoo and saw the TINY area that the giraffes have to move around in, you would probably wonder why he didn't die a long time ago.

Dimensions (depth x width x height): 3-1/2" x 14" x 20", Bronze
